In the middle of the rising COVID 19 cases all over India, the government of Sikkim lately has issued advisory mandating RT PCR negative reports for any tourists coming to the state starting April 7. All of them have to carry a certificate of being COVID-19 negative from 72 hours before their visit and present it upon their arrival in Sikkim.

As per the recent guidelines, if any tourist fail to present the RT PCR negative certificate starting April 7, the hotels and homestays where he/she has booked has to make sure that the test is conducted at the nearest specified location without any fail.

Sikkim’s Health department earlier in March had presented the urgency for reviewing tourists at the state borders and the government was considering assessing them at the Siliguri entry point in West Bengal. However, the latest notification published by the Home department on March 31st, has no mention on the same.

In the meantime, the Sikkim government has declared about restrictions on vehicular movement as well between 10:30 pm to 6 am. Previously, some sort of relaxation was permitted to the tourist vehicles, but in the new notification, the same has not been mentioned. Emergency and commercial goods vehicles movement will only be allowed during the restricted hours.

Also, the Sikkim government offices will remain closed on weekends. The Health department has requested all eligible citizens above 45 years of age to come forward for vaccination from April 1.

All government employees, including teachers above 45 years of age shall be vaccinated on or before May 1. Starting May 1, it will be mandatory to produce preliminary certificate of vaccination for all those above 45 years of age for visiting any government offices or using public transport. Also, for all hotel staff, homestay owners, taxi drivers as well as employees in commercial establishments, the vaccination certificate will be made mandatory, above 45 years of age.
