Tourism Week in Canada starts

Tourism Week in Canada has started and Tourism Prince George is celebrating virtually by motivating locals to support the tourism industry. Before COVID-19, Tourism in Canada worth $105 billion, accounting for 2% of Canada’s GDP and employing roughly 1.8 million people, according to the Tourism Industry of Canada.

The Northern BC Tourism Association carried a survey of tourism operators in Northern BC and found that in April of 2021, 31% of businesses were temporarily closed due to COVID-19 and 44% of businesses were operating with reduced hours, staff, and/or services.

Tourism Prince George has collaborated with some local tourism organizations, offering staycation packages for locals. Buying gift cards or memberships are among other ways to support tourism businesses. Many organizations are still open adhering to safety protocols, and one can visit these local businesses during this time for showing support.
