BRITS jetting to Spain for some winter warmth will NOT have to wear masks on the beach.

It was feared UK holidaymakers opting for a sun-kissed Christmas break would have to wear face masks on the sand.

But Spain’s health minister Carolina Darias named beaches as an exception to new face mask rules introduced by the Spanish government.

Masks are compulsory in most public spaces, both inside and outside. Fines for failing to cover up outside will be up to €100 (£84.50).

The new rules on face masks have been brought in to combat the latest surge in Covid cases linked to the Omicron variant.

The Spanish government said it sees the new measure as “temporary”, signalling a return to the pre-Omicron situation of face masks in public spaces indoors only.

This would coincide with more tourists heading to Spain in the spring time.

Spain has opted against following the lead of neighbours France and remains open to some Brits.
