Jet2 becomes first UK airline to drop mandatory face masks on flights

JET2 has confirmed that Brits no longer need to wear face masks on their flights.

It is the first major airline in the UK to announce the change after the government dropped the guidance making them mandatory onboard.

Last month, Boris Johnson scrapped all coronavirus rules after two years of lockdowns, isolation and testing, as part of Living With Covid.

This includes wearing face masks on public transport.

The Jet2 website states: “It’s no longer a legal requirement to wear a face mask at our airports or onboard our planes.

“However, as per UK Government guidance, we recommend that you continue to wear a face mask in these spaces, and you will need to wear one when you get to your overseas destination.”

This applies to anyone travelling from England and Northern Ireland.

A spokesperson told Sun Online Travel that customers traveling from Scotland aged six and over must still wear a face mask.

Travellers will also still need to take face masks with them, as the airline warned “they will need to wear one when they get to their overseas destination”.

Destinations like Spain still require masks indoors or when you can’t social distance.

Thankfully the holiday destination scrapped the requirement to wear the outdoors last month.

And more countries are dropping some of their Covid rules, such as pre-arrival tests.

Dubai no longer requires tests from vaccinated arrivals along with Italy and Cyprus.

And Iceland has lifted all of their Covid travel restrictions, including for unvaxxed holidaymakers.

Brits can return to the UK easier too after the UK lifted nearly all of the travel restrictions for holidaymakers, with Covid tests no longer required from vaccinated travellers.

Arrivals only need to fill in a Passenger Locator Form, although it is hoped this could be scrapped by Easter.
