Saudi Arabia is considering tripling foreign tourism in 2022 with the easing of pandemic restrictions, return of hajj pilgrims and the opening of the first phases of the crown prince’s signature projects. This was said by the Kingdom’s tourism minister.

The Kingdom which was once famously traditionalist and guarded,initiated tourist visas in September 2019, which is just months before the pandemic devastated the tourism sector globally.

However, an uptick in domestic travel in both 2020 and 2021 –which according to the tourism authorities was a record 64 million domestic visitors last year assisted insaving the budding Saudi tourism sector from downfall. Now, the Saudi authorities are aiming to seize a major portion of the international market, said Ahmed.

Al Khateeb said that the Saudi authorities are now striving and moving to attract a greater number of international visitors.He specified that the goal for this year is 12 million, going up from 4 million last year.

He said that the Kingdom is back once again and they are very optimistic. Countries have again started to reopen their borders, and restrictions have started relaxing for the better and people are also looking forward to travel.

Saudi Arabia has indeed raised eyebrows due to its objective of witnessing 100 million visitors by 2030. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 improvementprogramaims to branch out the oil-dependent economy and welcome people from around the world.
