The tourism industry is acquiring strength once again with the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in many countries around the world. While relaxing and sightseeing occupy the most important criteria for travel for majority of the travelers, after the subsiding of the pandemic, spiritual tourism is gaining momentum in India. As per a report by Thomas Cook and SOTC Travel, India has witnessed a 35 percent increase in the spiritual tourism segment.
The report brings to the fore the major reasons for improving religious travel in India. Among the major reasons is the feeling of thankfulness. During the pandemic times, people became interested in religious activities much more than before. Not only this, in order to recovertheir businesses or jobs, many people are eager to get the blessings of the Almighty. Similarly, ‘thanksgiving’ for weddings and the birth of a child is a big reason to embark on spiritual tourism.
Thomas Cook has said that after the pandemic, they are witnessing anultimateincrease in spiritual tourism in appreciation and to get the blessings of God. With the Indian government’s strong emphasis on connectivity and infrastructural growth, spiritual locations are gathering interest not only from senior citizens and families but also from the new generation and groups of friends. Thomas Cook said that their product portfolio has been diversified in this respect to offer a variety ofsuitable pilgrimages and customized options that comprise wellness along with unique local experiences – encompassing culture, cuisine and out-of-doors adventure.
