Requirement of responsible tourism in Uttarakhand

Participants at a brainstorming occasionurged for the requirementof responsible tourism in Uttarakhand. They restated the requirement for sustainable development training and waste control, among other actions.The discussion was held at a café in Dehradun.

Uttarakhand Chapter-PHD Chamber of Commerce Chair HemantKochar,spoke about the 12 diversetourism models andencouraged the necessity ofadditionalstudy within the 12 models. Mr. Kochar said that research needs to be doneconcerning what kind of tourists are visiting Uttarakhand, what those tourists are giving us and what they are taking away from the state.

The Director of the ‘Valley of the Words Festival’Sanjeev Chopra said that tourism is a wonderful mechanism for promoting culture. Ith the help of tourism, it is possible to transportcustoms, food and produces to other communities.

For this, the stakeholders connectedwith tourism will need to put a lot of effort on responsible tourism.

Kiran Bhatt Todaria, the Managing Director of Indo Ganga Holidays stressed on theimprovement of the rafting and tourism happenings in Rishikeshin the course of the last 30-35 years. JagdeepKhanna, the principal of the Institute of Hotel Management in Dehradun, said that there should be more transparency in the home stay rule in Uttarakhand.
