Where is The Bay Tree?

Right on the Kent coast in the peaceful town of Broadstairs, The Bay Tree is a five-minute walk from the main beach at Viking Bay.

Broadstairs train station is less than a mile away, but there is parking round the back if you’d rather drive.

What is The Bay Tree like?

This large Victorian house has been painstakingly restored with period features reinstated and now it is perfect for a relaxing seaside break.

The owners, Alistair and Robert, have two pooches, so unsurprisingly the hotel is dog-friendly.

For an extra £10 per night, guests can stay with their pet in the ground- floor Willow room, which comes with complimentary dog treats and a microfibre pet towel.

What is there to do at The Bay Tree?

It’s close to all of the town’s main attractions, including the Dickens House Museum, dedicated to the 19th-century writer who regularly holidayed in Broadstairs.

For something more lively, though, Margate is a ten minute drive away and had trendy shops, bars and restaurants.

What is there to eat and drink at The Bay Tree?

The small sea-view restaurant offers simple dishes, well executed.

Most read in Travel

I had calamari to start and steak for my main, and both were tasty and well presented.

But if you want a more gourmet option try Wyatt & Jones on Harbour Street, which offers imaginative small plates, with great seafood options.

The Bay Tree offers a delicious “full Kentish breakfast” with plump sausages, black pudding, bacon and hash browns.

The ten bedrooms have been tastefully refurbished with antique furniture, plush fabrics, comfy beds, smart TVs and modern bathrooms.

Four rooms offer sea views, one of which is the wonderfully relaxing Maple room, where I stayed, which looked over the cliffs and water.
