Of late, Kochi restarted its outbound tourism after going through a long gap of almost one-and-a-half years. It started with a group of 24 tourists from Kerala who took their first trip to the US. In this city, outbound tourism had almost come to a long halt due to the pandemic which damaged Kerala’s tourism industry in a major way.

Last year, domestic arrivals in the state dropped by 72.86 per cent in comparison to 2019, according to State Tourism data, and the international arrivals got significantly reduced by 71.36 per cent.

The tourist group included 13 men, 9 women and two children, as per a report published in the New Indian Express (TNIE), and the slot even became the first ever group from India to travel to the US since the pandemic outbreak.

They will enjoy a 15-day stay in the US, as per reports by TNIE, while visiting New York, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Niagara Falls, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

M. K. Soman, managing director of Soman’s, an outbound tour operator, was quoted by TOI as saying that the trip is exclusive as this tourist group is the first-ever group tour to the US from anywhere in the world since pandemic started.
He also said that some of the tourists from the group are visiting the US for the first time.

As tourism operations are picking up slowly, tour operators have now started offering packages to Europe, Russia and Middle Eastern countries to travellers, TNIE revealed in its report.
